This girl would not have gotten a record deal if somewhere down the line, someone believed she wasn't talented. Most of us have no idea how hard it is to get a deal, and how many people try and fail for whatever factors, including inability to sing. So clearly she is capable.
If you don't like her, don't listen to her and don't buy her records. But there's no purpose in wasting your time bad-mouthing her and her performances.

It's all about looks and what people will buy into at any given time. Labels sign acts who are similar to whoever's hot at the time. Alot of these chicks are coming up with the long weaves, the light complexions and similarities to the likes of Beyonce and this is what labels look for.
Music goes in trends - it's like fashion. It's a shame, because it can mean that brilliant artists get shunned to the side, whilst the weaker ones bask in the limelight, go in the studio with the hottest producers and enjoy multi platinum sales.

To whoever "anonymous" is, I do like the song but not just because of the beat. I think that is a stupid reason to like a song. In fact, I think the song as a whole works quite well. It is not a song that calls for oversinging and powerful vocals, so it would have sounded horrible in the hands of Beyonce.
Give the girl a chance to adjust to being a singer. Modelling is very different, and it will take her a couple of performances to get used to things.

More shocking news ... I just read that Cassie was in a bidding war between Tommy Motola and Bad Boy. I guess Bad Boy got the upper hand. Mind you, Me & U was very popular on Myspace. This is how new pop British sensation Lily Allen got signed as well. The song actually caught on, and that's how she got her deal.
As for the "I only like the song cos of the beat" comments, some people are like that.
I like "Me and U" because of the beat and the catchy lyrics. Cassie herself doesn't factor into the songs likeability for me.
The only reason her album is good is because of Ryan Leslie's production and song writing. He could've given those tracks to Ciara = they woulda been hot. He coulda given them to Kelly Rowland = they woulda been hot. He coulda given them to Nelly Furtado = they woulda been hot.
There are plenty of songs which chart clearly because of the music itself ("Me & U", "Goodies") with the artist not factoring into it at all. And then there are songs which chart because of the artists popularity and not the quality of the song (i.e Beyonce) And then there are songs which chart because of the entire package (i.e Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" in the US and "Maneater" in the UK)
You don't have to hold a note to sell a record. You just have to have the look and be able to come with the sound that is hot at the time. This is the only reason chicks like Cassie and Rihanna are as hot as they are right now. They're in messy situations, because unless they prove themselves as true artists, they'll be gone and forgotten in a couple of years, IF that.
