B'DAY IS TRASH

B'Day album sampler [Download: clips]

Okay, so I download the sampler and I'm all excited because I'm expecting another Dangerously In Love (which IS a good album by the way) and what possesses my ears? Third grade duplication of Survivor part two. Actually, these tracks sound like Survivor rejects and from the era in which I'd have appreciated these whilst still a teenager at college taking my A-Levels. The album titles are on some elementary bullshit not to mention that she's bitten off a large piece of pie from the Amerie-swagger (Suga Mama, especially).

The sad thing about it is that this shit will probably sell. And in no way am I being harsh but this crap doesn't deserve to sell. Well, to take some light off the situation, the negativity and the wackness, I do like Kitty Kat, Irreplacable and Upgrade You. Also, I think Green Light is a grower. But all the other tracks sound like remixes from the other tracks. She hasn't switched up, shown diversity or developed as an artist. I'm not feeling the other tracks and I don't like Ring The Alarm either. Hell as hit the shores of the North Pole because it's sad that I like that Laffy Taffy song better than some of these tracks. I would rather not see that racist bitch Paris outsell her though so maybe (just maybe) I'll buy myself a copy.

With the exception of Irreplacable, none of these songs are single-worthy. I think Irreplacable (which was written and produced by Ne-yo) would do extremely well on Pop radio. But this whole B'Day farse is not looking good, wack video's, wack songs, wack lyrics, what next? How can anyone in their right mind expect to produce a quality album in just two weeks? Yes, I'm still a fan but garbage is garbage. Maybe the clips aren't doing the songs justice, who knows? But from what I hear, it's not sounding great at all. I think Beyonce tried to let everyone know she's independent by going into the studio by herself and not let anyone know but it's proven to be a recipe for disaster.

So Excited - Janet Jackson feat Khia [Download: full]
Okay, here's a MUCH better quality of that Janet Jackson song without JD screaming all over the track. The song is beginning to grow on me ... slightly.

So excited is hot,all my friends who have heard it love it,and so will the people who will hear it in the club.

y'all really trippin,i mean u just heard choruses and not the entire songs, so u can't judge based on that. anyhow bday is already gettin good reviews from folks that have actually listened to the entire album(might wanna check out blender mag review).unlike christina aguilera( oversinging and overproducing)and kelis(weird and all over the place, with limit vocal skills), this is actually fun and upbeat, and yes it will sell!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

so excited sucks, janet needs to take it back to the basics, and stop tryna compete with the young singers, who can actually sing

Anonymous said...

amerie???? please,if anything she jack beyonce style, coz it wasn't after the successful of "crazy in love", that amerie swtiched up her singing style and try to sing fast, on "1thing", which beyonce's singing trademark. amerie can stand next to beyonce, beyonce will sing circles around her.definately will be gettin bday.

Actually, it was Amerie who was the first to work with Rich Harrison on her first single Why Don't We Fall In Love. So you can more or less say that Amerie was the one who introduced us to the Rich Harrison "beat".

The only thing Beyonce did was give Rich mainstream recognition as a producer with her monster hit Crazy In Love.

This also coerced his promotion into producing tracks for Jennifer Lopez (Get Right) and Toni Braxton (Take This Ring).

Get your facts right before coming at me!!!

Toya, in regards to your comment on how can someone produce an album in 2 weeks, Missy Elliot produces her albums in a week. I think I read that she made one album in only 3 days and Missy Elliot's CDs are always fantastic. Of course Beyonce has proved that she can't make an album in 2 weeks because from the sampler this entire B'Day project is complete shit. What a waste of a talented artist. Actually I correct myself, I used to think Beyonce was a talented artist but now I have reduced her to only a talented vocalist in my mind.

Anonymous said...

Can someone show the GOOD REVIEWS from the album? And Christina came harder than all the girls out there.

Anonymous said...

Toya don't pay these people no mind. you get all this hate cause they can't accept criticism about their goddess Beyonce. you're a better fan than most of these "yes people" because you're sincere and dont sugarcoat anything, and thats the type of person beyonce needs around her. i didnt like the clip of deja vu when it leaked and my mind aint changed when i heard the entire song.

you can judge based on clips especially if its the catchiest part : the chorus.

keep blogging Toya,I got your back.

Anonymous said...

I'm tired of Beyonce's fans accusing people of being "haters" just because we don't like Beyonce's music. That's retarded and that's not how you get people to see Beyonce in a better light. It turns people off.

^seriously. i love beyonce but this is trash. in the words of the ghetto princess "you better know yaself if ya talkin bout beyonce's fans"

Random J said...

I don't think it's THAT bad. I didn't like "Dangerously in love" at ALL! It just had good singles.

I actually really like a couple of the songs on "B'Day". I'm really liking the sound of "Green light" (which shoulda been a first single!) and "Upgrade U" which is a much better club banga that that "Ring the alarm" shit. I just hope Jay-Z comes strong on that track. "Irreplaceable" also sounds cool. I don't think Ne-Yo produced it, only co-wrote it. The track is produced by StarGate.

It's a shame more Darkchild tracks didn't make their way onto the album. Rodney Jerkins produced "World wide woman" and "Back up" - but they're absent from the final tracklisting.

Random J said...

As for the Rich Harrison deal, I kind of agree Beyonce helped launch his sound. Because Rich Harrison's productions pre- "Crazy in love" didn't really feature the heavy percussions and sampling. His signature sound that we know now isn't present on Amerie's debut album at all. So you could say "Crazy in love" launched that sound for him, because he hadn't really crafted tracks like that before then.

Amerie worked with him first - there's no disputing that. But I think "Crazy in love" definetely allowed Rich Harrison to stamp his sound on the music scene and everyone wanted that percussive, funk sound after that. I'd say that Amerie and Rich are responsible for the vocal riffs which crops up in alot of Rich Harrisons songs though. I mean, even Beyonce's "Uh-oh. Uh-oh's" Amerie's always done stuff like that, even back on her first album and cultivated it to great effect on her "Touch" album. (I still think "1 thing" beats "Crazy in love" hands down).

If Beyonce hadn't got "Crazy in love", someone else would have - because Rich Harrison had done that beat LONG before Beyonce came into the picture. But...B got to it first, so...*shrugs*

But I have to say that "Suga mama" does sound like an Amerie cut. It sounds like a slower, tamer version of Amerie's "Talkin' about". I think Amerie showed that she owned the Rich Harrison sound when she came with her "Touch" album, as (even though her voice isn't brilliant) she can ride his beats flawlessly and add all the riffs in the right places.

PLEASE, BEYONCE'S NEW ALBUM SUCKS MA WHOLE ASS, AND I AGREE WITH TOYA, THA LYRICS ARE THE DUMBEST I EVA HEARD, THE SONGS GOT NO GOOD BEAT AND SHE SOUNDS LIKE SHE TRYNNA MAKE A NEW PERSONAL SOUND, BUT I GOTTA SAY SHE COULDA DONE WAY BETTER. AND I DONT KNO BUT I THINK SHE THINKS SHES A COW, ALWAYS WITH THOSE ANNOYIN BELLS IN EVERY SINGLE SONG SHE MAKES. I ONLY LIKE (NOT EVEN LOVE) DEJA VU, ITS DA ONLY SONG'S WORTH IT. AND WHEN I HEARD AGUILERA'S 30 SECONDS CLIP, I KNEW IT WOULD BE A NICE ALBUM, AND ACTUALLY IT IS, I REALLY LUV IT. AND EVEN PARIS HILTON'S IS WAY BETTER THAN BEYONCE'S. IM A BEYONCE FAN BUT A FAN GOTTA SAY DA TRUTH, AND THIS IS DA TRUTH. "GREEN LIGHT" WHEN SHE SINGS THAT "OOH OOH"SHE REALLY SOUNDS LIKE AMERIE'S "1 THING". BEYONCE PLEASE BE ORIGINAL AND STOP MAKIN SONGS FROM SAMPLES.
AND "SO EXCITED" BY JANET IS DA SHIT, I REALLY LIKE DAT SONG, SO HATERZ JUST STAY OFF JANET.

Anonymous said...

^yes, i cannot even believe i am saying this but paris hilton's album is actually better than this. omg beyonce... what happened

and i like that little joke about the cow bells. she has become a cow with this cd... all the lyrics are so immature

Anonymous said...

Dangerously in love was average at best. and anyone swearing that this album is "great" is in denial or is nothing but solange helping her sister. you can't trash christina aguilera's inspired music and quality LYRICS, and say that B Day is "great", it's not even "good". there's only 2 clips that i like and its upgrade u and suga mama (she stole amerie's singing style) the rest in wack. be real. she has a good voice but her music is wack.

Anonymous said...

Ok...this is coming from a B fan...but this album is GARBAGE. G-A-R-B-A-G-E. The only track to peak my interest was Upgrade, and that's still not that good.

And I hope it doesn't sell. It will be an injustice if she gets away with thinking that she can make an album in two weeks and think everyone will eat it up. She's no Missy Elliot. Missy can do that shit because she's a hot rapper, a hot singer, and a hot PRODUCER and a hot SONGWRITER. All she needs is herself in that studio to make some hits. Beyonce can't do none of that. She's just a SINGER (hell, the song's she co-writes aren't even good, so she needs to stop talking about all this writing she does). She should have taken time with the album--instead of rushing the producers with her stupid "competition", she should have set them up in a studio and given them all the time they needed to make some hot beats for her. She should have gotten with ACTUAL song writers; and if she wanted a new vocal sound she should have gotten with a vocal coach who could have taught her how to do different types of runs and vocal intonations to give her voice a different SOUND, instead of thinking that yelling on every track is different.

Basically, unless a miracle happens and whoever made this sampler chose the worst parts of each song to make it, this album will be Garbage. But I'm not putting any faith in that. Samplers have been pretty accurate this year.

Anonymous said...

^^ that's the kinda fans that will help beyonce evolve. tired of the "yes people", be true to the girl if you really love her and tell her to go back to the studio.

The only songs I'm feeling besides Deja Vu and Ring The Alarm are Kitty Kat and Upgrade You. Toya is right, it does sound like the Survivor album all over again and that is the only Destiny's Child album I didn't like. It's too pop (which I'm not a big fan of)! But like someone else said, you can't judge a song on 30 seconds, but this definitely lets me know I'll be downloading this album from somewhere before I decide to buy it or not. I'm so disappointed! I'm a Bee fan but she's trippin' with this! Who ever told her she could write quality songs in 2 weeks?!? And a lot of beats, while hot, still sound like they're all over the place! Not a good look Beyonce. But since this is Beyonce we're talking about I'm sure she'll sell records anyway.

i can tell by the title of the songs on bee's album that it won't be much to listen to. the media portrays bee as someone who has grown up and matured musically , but i'm not hearing maturity or growth in her music. i'm trying to give the girl a chance because she is from my hometown and i enjoy supporting artists ( who deserve it ) from my hometown , but what bee is putting ou so far has not impressed me . this just proves to me that bee only put out this album to try and screw over letoya luckett. she wasn't worried about good quality music . she just wanted to show that she could put out anything and people would buy it . i'm sure i'll get alot of crap for the last statemnt , but i don't care because it's true.

as for janet, i like so excited. i hope that once janet starts doing the dance mixes and what not to both call on me and so excited that people will like the songs more. i know for a fcat that's what her older fans are waiting for .

I am a BIG Beyonce fan, but I don't like anything I heard (or saw) about B'day. It will sell because it's Beyonce, and fans will buy it without wondering what it is. Sure, these are just snippets, but you hear the "Crazy ib love" snippet and you know it's a bomb. All the songs sound like the same to me, there is no variety. I can't stand Ring the alarm (and I listen at the full song many times) and the video is... I don't know what to say. Does she want to play the bad sexy girl ? I wish she did this album with help. I'll buy her album, as I bought everything from her. But till now, nothing good to me and quality very far from the 1st album. Talking about the good reviews, I'd be interested to read some (I mean from professionals) because all the ones I found said there were 2 or 3 good songs and that the album was garbagge. I am a Beyonce fan, I do love her but I am not ok to say anything she says is wonderful.

Random J said...

Damn! The overall opinion seems to be unanimous! Ain't no one feeling her album *lol*

No doubt her record label will be insisting she don't record in secret anymore! *lol* I don't think some of the tracks are as bad as some are making out, but it's definetely not the strong 2nd album she's capable of doing.

In terms of lyrics, I got nothing against silly lyrics as they can work if the beat and the mood is right. Nelly Furtado's "Loose" is an example of that - even in her silly songs such as "Glow" there was some substance and a story in there along with some of the hottest beats Timbo's done so far.

Tracks such as "Upgrade U" have hot beats, but the lyrics are pretty silly. *lol* Britney should be singing that track about K-Fed as she seems to be doing all the shit B's singing about in that song.

First of all, it is hard to judge a song based on the chorus, I have listened to several songs based on the clips and I thought it was going to be horrible but it ended up being great. I do wish that Beyonce put more time into this instead of two weeks but it is not horrible. I see potential in these tracks and cannot wait to hear the full tracks. The more I listen to them the more they are growing on me. As far as the Amerie situation, how is Beyonce trying to copy Amerie, if anything, Beyonce's Crazy In Love Inspired Amerie's 1 Thing, Jennifer Lopez Get You Right, you can see the similarities in vocals. Toya is righ, people will buy B-Day and some might like it some might not, period. Janet Jackson, I like the chorus, but thats it. Not the best though.

First of all, why are some of y'all gettin on Toya? she has the right to an opinion just like everybody else, so all the name callin and disrespect aint necesarry! Toya' has said plenty about Janet (who I happend to love), but its still all good, she hooks us up with the hot shit, we aint always gonna agree!

I love Beyonce, I think she has the potential to be the NEXT big thing...but judging from these clips(may feel differently when full songs are released)she should've taken her time to produce quality material we all know she is capable of. In terms of timing, her release would've been just fine in Nov. or even Dec to coincide with the release of Dreamgirls. But, I as many others have, speculate she was on the vindictive shit tryna shut Letoya...and the VET, Janet down and show us all who the baddest bitch really is...GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY, and to prove that are the samples of BDay...now Toya, Beyonce should call it a day!!!!!

Janet...I won't lie on first listen, not fully amused. But after getting the HQ version, I'M LOVING IT! the visuals will (hopefully, cause alot is goin to ride on the video/choreography)do nothing but help the success of this song. Can't wait for 20 YO clips to be released, should be fun.

Beyonce's samples sounded better than I expected, but then I wasn't expecting very much. I can already tell that Irreplaceable is going to be my favourite.

Normally I don't hear the resemblances in songs when people compare them, but Green Light sounds A LOT like Amerie's One Thing.

I actually quite like many of these samples, but I think the lyrics are on the weak side. I think this will be a solid album, but Beyonce is capable of better. I hope next time around, she goes for substance rather than style, and has better lyrics.

Nonetheless, I will be getting this album. It's much better than I expected.

AS BLACK WOMEN WE TEND TO KNOCK EACH OTHER BECAUSE OF JEALOUSY AND ENVY

^^ Calm down, thank God my momma raised me better than to think that black women tend to knock each other because of jealousy and envy. my mother is not like that. this is not a female trait, and not a black trait. what a sorry excuse. white people (male and female) knocked Britney Spears down too. why didn't you say that? and if black women knock other successful black women so much explain the major love alicia keys gets. beyonce is NOT HOT this year and this is not jealousy this is an opinion and a borderline fact if you compare this to Dangerously In Love.

beyonce stans need to wake up and realize that EVERYONE can flop. if JLO flopped, if legends like madonna, mariah carey and janet flopped, what would make beyonce different? MATTHEW wanna push the album back, 2 weeks prior to the the release, if that's not an INDICATION that she didn't work on her album enough then i don't know what is.

most people on blogs, even the fans, say this is trash. i agree with that. Toya is just being honest with the artists she cares about. BRAVO!

Roger Friedman rips the fur of Beyonce and makes her wear her own skin in his critique of B'Day.

Here are some highlights of the review:

"- Imagine if Whitney Houston never had Clive Davis steering her career for those first few important image-defining albums. The result would have been Beyonce Knowles ' new B'Day, the follow up to her huge-selling debut album Dangerously in Love.

- Post-Destiny's Child Beyonce serves up a mixed bag of Tina Turner-inspired videos, shrill singing and invariably tuneless songs.

- [B'Day's first single, Deja Vu] is catchy if you hear it enough times - like a sidewalk drill - but it lacks a consistent melody.

- I am told that focus groups (yes - can you imagine?) don't care for it.

- Among the tracks that sound less obvious - and more tired - are the next planned single, Ring the Alarm. It features an extremely annoying siren and is accompanied by a bizarre video depicting a wildly angry and unappealing Beyonce telling off someone (maybe Jay-Z?) for cheating as if she were an enraged guest on Maury Povich."

B'Day is gonna be a hit. This is not 2003. Let that DIL shit go. Focus on what she's doing now. She's an artist. She's growing. One thing people seem to forget about Bee is that she's a trendsetter. She made Rich Harrison hot. Sorry Amerie! After "Crazy In Love" took off, every bitch in the game wanted a piece of the pie. J.Lo ("Get Right"), Toni Braxton ("Take This Ring"), Amerie ("1 Thing"), etc.

Then, Mariah drops "We Belong Together", then every bitch in the game starts copying her w/ these R&B ballads that sound too similar. Did Bee follow??? Naw! She dropped "Check On It", and went to #1 for weeks. She's a trendsetter. She doesn't follow what everyone else is doing.

Okay, "Deja Vu" didn't go to #1, but so what? She won't be #1 every single time. Stop comparing the success of this project to the success of DIL. "Crazy In Love" was a special case. When it works - it works. In that instance, it really really worked. Some of you fans kill me. You're so ready to write her off before the era has even officially begun.

Beyonce's a beast. Don't EVER count her out.

One thing people seem to forget about Bee is that she's a trendsetter.

^ WRONG! She's a trend-recycler. She recycled JLO. She dances like Tina Turner and Josephine Baker. She also channels Shakirah. She's using Kelis screaming, and no matter what people say, the singing style and vocal arrangements of SUGA MAMA is AMERIE's STYLE, she sounds EXACTLY like her. She made Rich Harrisson popular with CIL but that was a total different singing style, THIS STYLE OF SINGING in SUGA MAMA - ONLY AMERIE DOES THIS.

Bee has TALENT, but she has YET to set a TREND. She didn't EVEN INVENT the ass shaking. TOOK THAT FROM STRIP CLUBS. Like I said, TREND TAKER, TREND RECYCLER, NOT TRENDSETTER.

^^ that will always be part of her career and old cds are used to watch an artist's evolution. would you say about MJ "Thriller album is from the past let that shit go" when that's CLEARLY one of the best albums of his career? I DONT LIKE NO SONG BUT DEJA VU, SO IT DOESNT REALLY SURPRISE TO SEE IT WAS HER FIRST SINGLE. NOW I WONDER IF SHE WILL SELL OVA 1 MILLION COPIES IN DA U.S. I HOPE NOT, THAT WAY SHE WILL TAKE DA RIGHT DIRECTION IN HER NEXT ALBUM (IF SHE GETS A DEAL WITH A LABEL *LOL*)

Since Beyonce fanatic fans claim that Beyonce is so smart and such a hard worker, can someone tell me why her single Deja Vu has NOTHING TO DO WITH DEJA VU! Beyonce works so hard, but she couldn't work her ass to a dictionary to comprehend what Deja Vu actually means? And Beyonce is so smart yet she obviously doesn't know what Deja Vu means? I mean, I'm indifferent about Beyonce's music. Sometimes the music is good, but most of the time it's mediocre. She makes music which is more suitable for early teenagers. The lyrics are infantile, and most of her songs all cover the same topics. She really needs to experience some growth as an entertainer, vocalist and student. Because she is lacking in all areas. She is making it clear that she really can't handle her career without someone holding her hand. I'm assuming that the fans who defend her so much do so...because obviously they all are intellectually on the same level. I'd like a fanatic to tell me what Deja Vu means and how her first single has ANYTHING to do with it?

In an interview she moaned about people still bringing up how big "Crazy in love" was and won't let it go - but it seems she's the one who is still clinging to that record herself. Alot of the "B'Rubbish" snippets, I MEAN "B'Day" snippets *lol* sound like variations of "Crazy in love" in some form or other.

I feel for Beyonce. Her and her girls came with "Destiny fulfilled", it didn't do brilliantly (though I liked that album). Now she comes with her solo record and everyone's slating it!

I think because none of the "Destiny fulfilled" singles charted at #1, yet her single "Check on it" did - I bet her and her camp was like "Ooooo! Solo album! Drop it soon!" Now she's suffering the back lash. I HATED "Check on it" - I think the song's shit. It sounds hot in a club, but as a song I don't like it.

I can see her "Dreamgirls" tracks sounding hotter than many of her "B'Day" tracks. *lol* "One night only" vocally already trounces what I've heard from the "B'Day" snippets. She sounds hot on that track.

EXACTLY. Everything they said is the truth no matter how you put it. Its all a trent. After crazy in love, how many females wanted to do a performance rocking short skirts and pumps. Alot. Teirra Mari, Amerie, Ashanti, Toni Braxton, Rihanna, you name it and beyonce started it. She is a trend in itself. At the end of the day, the negative and positive remarks are still supporting Beyonce, because this is the only entry that recieved over 50 comments are those with Beyonce. So hey, hopefully the album will get pushed back and she can work it out better than it already is.

I am no longer a Beyonce Stan!!! This sampler sucks ass and titays! "Ring The Alarm" sucks ass and tityas!! I can't believe that she is pushing this crap. I agree 100% with u Toya. And as far as not being able to tell if a song is good or bad in 30 seconds is a lie. I can tell a hit in less than that, and not to toot my own horn, but beep beep b/c i have a pretty damn good ear. And the to all of u non-believers, the hooks are the selling point to a song. So have a big tall glass of shut the fuck and sit the fuck down!! Beyonce, WTF honey??!! Get it together or we are gonna have to start a petiton to get Daddy Knowles back in your ass!!

Why does someone have to be accused of hating on another black woman out of envy? It fucking kills me. In no way do I envy Beyonce. Sure, she is beautiful and talented but I will NOT big up bullshit just because she's black. I'm trashing her album simply because it's exactly that, trash! I have praised Beyonce MANY times before.

This scenario is kind of hilarious. It reminds me of the R.Kelly SITUATION when most of us were accused of joining the white man in trying to bring a powerful black man down. I'm sorry but he is a dirty pervert and I will no longer listen and buy his music because of that fact. It has nothing to do with bringing a black man down. Wrong is wrong and crap is crap.

We should support black folks even if they murdered/raped, have sex with minors or put out appalling music? Bullshit.

^ WRONG! BEYONCE TAKE TRENDS and makes some of them popular SHE DOESNT SET ANY OF THEM.

^^^ ditto.

Alotta people claim Beyonce to have set trends, when she hasn't really.

She just takes existing things and puts them out there. She takes what lesser known artists or producers have done and then puts it out on her mega mainstream scale. I'm waiting for somebody to say "Beyonce invented the dutty whine!" which she does a little bit of in her "Ring the alarm" video. *lol*
