ALBUM REVIEW: A BEAUTIFUL AWAKENING - STACIE ORRICO

Album Review, written by Toya
Leak date: 30th July 2006

If there were any bubblegum anthems on her last album, she definitely scrubbed it right off with scouring pad as far as this one is concerned. This girl can sing her little heart out and I am ecstatic that she's putting all her soul and talent into music that compliments her so flawlessly. Outstanding soulful anthems like Easy To Luv You effortlessly overwhelms without fail which leaves me wondering if she was holding back vocally. It is definitely one of those tracks which emphasises raw emotion whereas the highly upbeat Save Me has an impressive edgy R&B sound.

Another soulful track is Wait and this leaked a few weeks ago where I stated it was very Alicia Keys. This may very well describe my admiration for the song as it sounds very much like Alicia's Loving You Is Easy taken from Alicia's debut Songs In A Minor. A Beautiful Awakening definitely tops everything she's put out so far. The lyrics on this album magnitudes that of a young woman who has grown out of her adolescent stages and has become more implicitly set in her ways and this is deeply displayed in the song So Simple. After all, she's no longer this 16 year old school girl with that bubblegum attitude. She is now a 20 year old woman and doesn't dwell on the unimportant stuff.

Her strong headedness is vigorously displayed in her lead single I'm Not Missing You, a track that I fell in love with upon first listen, although there are songs on the album which I thought were better off deserved as lead singles in my opinion. Even the love songs Take Me Away and Dream You are done extremely well. Don't Ask Me To Stay is great R&B-pop at best whereas Baby Girl, Is It Me, and I Can't Give Up are all equally enticing. The album closes with the soulful A Beautiful Awakening which is accompanied by a gentle rock rift and superbly so. A beautiful awakening is what this album truly is.
