ALBUM REVIEW: 9 LIVES - KAT DELUNA

New Latina sensation Kat Deluna has hit it big with her fiery dance beats and impressive vocals. I am actually shocked that we finally get a newcomer who can actually sing (she has a 5-octave vocal range and she is only 19 years old). Kat is also a trained opera singer and can speak Spanish very fluently. I've also watched some of her performances and she's a star in the making. It took me a while to latch on but out of curiousity I downloaded her new album "9 Lives" last week (only managed to listen to the album last night) and it's hot. The album was released yesterday:

Her dance-hall driven club anthem "Whine Up" (featuring Elephant Man) is a summer smash, and tracks like "Be Remembered", "Enjoy Saying Goodbye", and "Run The Show" capture the mood of the season and are certified to have the dance floor on and popping. Other standouts include "Feel What I Feel", and "Love Fusion". And then you have your authentic Spanish tracks to beautifully draw the album to a close. However, the tracks that catapult her powerful vocals are "Am I Dreaming" and the beautifully written ballad "Love Me Leave Me". I am thrilled to bits that she's currently shooting the video for Am I Dreaming. For her amazing vocal talent, it would have been nice to have more ballads on the album, just to show it off a little more. Kat Deluna definitely knows when to distinguish between her fun and playful side to the true emotions that she channels to draw the listener in. Mixed with a fusion of dancehall, pop, salsa, and R&B beats, 9 Lives is definitely a refreshing offering from one of Latina's rising talents. The Dominican-born singer is not just your average kat with 9 lives but she has so much more to offer and I totally look forwards to her upcoming ventures and whatever else she brings to the table in the future. Don't sleep on Kat Deluna.
