Kelly appeared to be kidding herself when she tried to defend the poor sales of her new album Ms Kelly. Here, she is quoted as saying: "Yes, I came in at No. 6 and sold 86,000 records - in a declining market, might I add. I'm very proud of that. Not everybody's selling records like they used to. Even the biggest artists don't come out and go platinum in a week anymore. It's a different day and age in the music industry."
Hmmmm. I remember when folks said that after 9/11, which it was believed the insane act of terrorism back then had crippled the music economy. But that theory was proven unfounded when Usher sold a million of his album Confessions 3 years later. And the "declining market" didn't appear to affect Justin Timberlake's and Beyonce's album sales LAST YEAR (not 10 years ago). Both artists passed the 500k mark in their first week with flying colours. Sounds like Kelly is in denial. Folks just aren't checking for her anymore (not that they did to begin with). Still a shame though because her album was actually a solid effort.
