Catch A Fire | Movie Review

Okay, if this is playing in your area, I strongly encourage you all to see this movie. This is a very political and intense thriller that pretty much hits on every level for a "non-mainstream" movie. This movie stars Derek Luke and Tim Robbins and it's about Patrick (Luke), an average working family man in South Africa until a chain of events happens at his job where the oppressive "authorities" (Robbins & Company) go on a witch hunt to find the "terrorists" in which poor Patrick gets caught up and accused of a "crime" that he didn't commit. The authorities decide to torture him and his family and friends in his village and co-workers until they find the truth. This causes another chain of events that leads Patrick to just go ahead and join the "freedom fighters" to go head to head against the government there to take back their pride and land and life that was stolen from them.

I know the review is all over the place, but I'm doing my best to give you the general premise and not to spoil anything for you all, because there's a lot more to the story than what I'm revealing to you and it was pretty damn gripping to watch. Derek Luke, who I believe was in "Friday Night Lights" a few years back and Monica's "So Gone" video as the "Bad Boyfriend" was GREAT in this movie! Tim Robbins was one EVIL muthafucka with a "bit" of a heart. And I'm glad that the movie showed how similar their lives were but OH so different! For those of you who are still in high school and are reading those "boring" history books and can't seem to get a good understanding on how the government was (and probably still is) in South Africa, and how they were to Nelson Mandela and every other black person there, this movie will show you to a degree how brutal they were. Very educational movie with a powerful and positive message, and I strongly encourage everyone to see this movie at some point in their lifetime.
