Beyoncé's new album 'Renaissance' debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 332,000 copies (190k pure sales). This is Beyoncé's seventh consecutive album to debut at the top of the biggest US album chart.
She becomes the first female artist in HISTORY to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 with each of her first seven consecutive studio albums. She also now ties with Janet Jackson for most #1 albums in Billboard 200 history among Black female artists (7 each). And that’s after only four days of tracking and no music video or high end promotion. It has already secured the fourth biggest opening week of the year, and is set to become the first album released by a woman in 2022 to hit #1 on the Billboard 200.
'Renaissance' has been in heavy rotation here at TW headquarters and will remain so for a good while. However, the bigger concern would be that the album could very well lose its momentum in the second week. Let's just say a music video could give sales that extra boost, and VMAs season is fast approaching. An electrified performance with all the bells and whistles would certainly generate further interest from casual listeners.
