Irv Gotti takes credit for Ashanti’s early success: ❝She has not made a hit since.❞

Speaking with Page Six, Irv Gotti says he is responsible for making Ashanti the star she is today. He felt betrayed when Ashanti cut ties with his Murder Inc label after the feds raided the label’s offices in 2003.

Gotti was accused of laundering $1 million for Kenneth 'Supreme' McGriff, but was exonerated. “When the feds hit, she ran like the cockroaches when you turn the lights on,” he said. According to Gotti, her career has never been the same since she left Murder Inc. “How do you know I can say that firmly? The minute I stop making her records... She has not made a hit since.”

I don't think anyone is disputing that Gotti played a large role in her early success after she signed to Murder Inc in 2002. 'Foolish,' 'Baby,' and 'Happy' were massive hits thanks to him.

He was promoting her insanely, even crowning her the "Princess of R&B" a few months after Aaliyah had passed which I found rather disrespectful. During that time, she had only released 'Foolish,' so his claims that they were allegedly sleeping together kind of puts into perspective why he was batting for her so hard. Either way, slandering her name just because she made several necessary business decisions for herself (removing herself from the Inc, starting her own label AND re-recording her debut so she can profit from it) just shows how bitter he really is. While he gave her hits back then, when was the last time he actually produced a hit for someone? He’s garbage.

Irv needs to let it go and move on. He sounds cranky, lonely, and bitter.
