3LW’s Kiely Williams says lawsuit against Taylor Swift has ❝nothing to do❞ with her...

Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in 2017, accusing Taylor Swift of copying lyrics for 'Shake It Off' (2014) from 3LW's 2000 hit 'Playas Gon' Play,' which they wrote.

3LW were a former R&B group consisting of Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, and Naturi Naughton. Swift stated this week that she had never heard of 3LW or their song 'Playas Gon’ Play' until the lawsuit. She notes that “players gonna play” and “haters gonna hate” were common phrases that she heard growing up. After “receiving increasing numbers of hate” from Taylor Swift fans, Kiely hopped on Instagram Live. She used the platform to let Swift fans know they need to be aware of “the difference between the artist and the writer.”

It's wrong that her fans are coming for the artist when they are not the ones suing. However, I'm giving Taylor a massive side eye for claiming not to know of 3LW. She's not that old (or young for that matter). They may not have been on Destiny's Child level of fame, but they were still quite popular (Kiely and Adrienne were even in the Cheetah Girls). I mean, c'mon... Kiely's "I'm getting real tired of your broken promithith, promithith" was way too iconic for anyone not to know them!
