THE LATEST HOLLYWOOD DOMINATION: BLACK MOVIES DOING IT BIG ...

With the massive success of Dreamgirls and The Pursuit of Happyness, a positive splurge in black movie entertainment has seen urban dance movie Stomp The Yard hang onto the no 1 position for the second week running. Personally, for me, this is great news. The fact that the movie had massive opening numbers of $22 million dollars was absolutely tremendously fantastic. Way to go you Chris Brown groupies. OK. I keed. I keed. I guess it was all down to great production and fine young black acting talent pertained in that production. Correct? Right.

The R&B chart topper put his acting skills to the test in this small but positively challenging role, showing that he is more than just a pretty face. And again, proving that young and fresh new black talent is on the rise, set to make more of an impact on the immensely mainstream but yet competitively-challenged movie industry - in the name of Hollywood. Last week, power-house vocalist/American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Female, Eddie Murphy won for the same category and the movie also got one for Best Motion Picture. Just this morning when I was eating my toast, they started advertising the movie and in the commercial they announced the THREE Golden Globes that the movie had so far won (so far as in we still got The Oscars next month) because I think Jennifer Hudson still has a good chance. At just 25-years-old this remarkable young woman has achieved so much that I am practically in awe of her. Last week, I went to see Will Smith's The Pursuit of Happyness and his real-life son gave the performance of his life. Little Jaden was an absolute gem and ultimate pleasure to watch on the big screen and now the movie is even tipped for Oscar glory.

Dreamgirls doesn't open in the UK until 2nd February but when that day does arrive, I will definitely be hitting the theatres. Over here, Jennifer has been hailed the star of the movie just like everywhere else giving such an outstanding performance, some would argue that the movie's success is all down to her (never mind Beyonce and no I am not trying to be cynical). The good thing about these movies doing relatively well is that they are not stereotypical roles of black people - the muggers, the welfare scroungers, the drug dealers, etc. They are relatively positive. This is extremely important because audiences are likely to absorb these ideologies and stereotypes. Black movies today receiving a monstrosity of accolades is all down to brilliantly-written scripts and concepts and how they are executed on screen.

Before I get on my R&B grind, I just want to provide some food for thought. Black movies like Menace II Society and Boyz N The Hood was so early 90's but since we are in a new era, we have witnessed black successes in Hollywood such as the very occasional Oscars for black movie stars. Is black Hollywood on the rise to domination? Or is it just one of those passing phases that will die down, therefore indicating that black successes are only exceptional? I hope it's the latter and as long as black movies showcase a wide range of black talent and good scripts, I think this could be a continued pattern in the long run.

Another positive black movie which is set to do well is Pride starring Terrence Howard, Bernie Mac, and Kimberly Elise. Based on true events, Lionsgate's PRIDE tells the inspiring story of Jim Ellis, a charismatic schoolteacher in the 1970s who changed lives forever when he founded an African-American swim team in one of Philadelphia's roughest neighborhoods. You can watch the trailer [HERE]so be sure to check it out.

Fantasia Barrino performed a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City and looked a right fright as usual. Now why is it when this chick performs it looks like she is constipated and a plumber is waxing that ass? Her facial expressions are priceless, always filled with the utmost over-exaggerated of emotions. Chick is clearly possessed judging by these pictures:

If she's not sweating from head to toe, her body is in some sort of knee-jerking awkward position. I just don't get it:

.
One things for certain. She puts the capital B in BONAFIDE UGLY. Jamie Foxx also performed at the same concert:

Whatever, it was that Fantasia was suffering from, Jamie looked like he was suffering from it too. Maybe someone put fart powder in the air or something.

Belvedere Vodka hosted an After Party for Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" Concert Tour at Marquee and here's who attended:

.
The nauseating Akon, rapper Nelly amongst others. Oh and the gorgeous Larry Johnson. That man is fine as hell. He can have a piece of this mama anytime. Hmmmm, yum yum. I so envy Julissa right now (the chick who use to host BET). I hope the rumours aren't true that he's an actual woman beater and if he is, he is one of the FINEST woman beaters I have seen in a long time.
.
My girl Alicia Keys also dropped by on 106 and Park to promote her latest new movie Smokin' Aces. Check looked really pretty and I loved the hair but the outfit, just didn't accentuate her body shape:

But Ms Keys will always be my girl for life though. She just needs to hire a better stylist.

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy and girlfriend Tracy Edmonds attended the 2007 Park City - William Morris Party:

They were also joined by Rick Foxx.

Ice T and his trashy wife Coco hosted the Smooth Magazine Cover Party at Boulevard and what a sight it was:

Coko's crotch always look like it's hanging on her pants for dear life. She looks like she smells of wet dog. LITERALLY. Though, you don't come across much white women with an ass like that.

Stay tuned!
