When Solange released her debut "Solo Star" back in 2002, nobody took her seriously because she was just seen as Beyonce's "little" 15-year-old sister who became a dancer for Destiny's Child and was on the family payroll. Then when she married at 17, got pregnant with her cutie son Daniel and then divorced (allegedly), things just didn't work well in her favour at all. However, she did write and sing the theme tune for Disney's Proud Family and has had an acting spot in Bring It On alongside Bajan R&B singer Rihanna as well as written tracks for Kelly Rowland's solo debut album Simply Deep and her upcoming new album Ms Kelly. She is also currently writing for powerhouse legend Celine Dion. She also co-wrote Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied" and "Upgrade U". So despite ALL of her achievements, a lot of people still don't know what this girl is all about except that she's well, Beyonce's little sister. Her debut Solo Star wasn't a bad effort either. To this day her song "Crush" will always be my jam. However, two new tracks have leaked this week called Champagne Chronic Nightcap and White Picket Dreams, and judging by these, Solange's sound is more mature and adult-driven. Solange blatantly sings about her appreciation for the weed but um, her parents are the ones who went spare at the image of her becoming an unwed mother at 17. Anyway, lyrics aside, I think this is a nice sound she's got going for her. She's a pretty girl, has a nice voice and is an extremely talented songwriter (much better than her sister) but only time will tell if this is enough.
