JD CONFIRMS JANET'S TRANSITION TO ISLAND RECORDS ....

Jermaine Dupri has confirmed to Billboard that his girlfriend Janet Jackson has left Virgin for Island Def Jam. He says: "She's on Island, but it's more or less [Def Jam CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid's] project". Virgin were obviously not very happy with the poor performances of her last two albums 2004's "Damita Jo" and last year's "20 Y.O." which were both commercial disappointments. This would explain the reason why they decided not to contribute much with the promotion:

As for the direction of Janet's as-yet untitled album, JD says of L.A. Reid, "I don't really know what he's got in mind at this point. His past record isn't shabby so I'm gonna let him do what he's gotta do. I'm going to do [the new] Mariah [Carey album], and we're gonna make it seem like we're in competition to see who's gonna have the biggest album of the year."

Wow. She's rushing to put out the album THIS YEAR?!?!? Whatever happened to Jan's 3-year period between albums? I thought the constant need to release albums back-to-back was something reserved for artists who lack talent but only have catchy music to compensate for it (no offence Rihanna). Guess I was wrong. I am also thrilled that JD is stepping down on this record and concentrating on Mariah. He didn't do a very good job of 20 Years Old, but his chemistry magic with Mariah is genuis.
