Most of you were right. The album doesn't sound as bad as the clips make out. Kitty Kat, Irreplaceable, Resentment and Upgrade You are absolute winners! But then again, those were the songs I originally liked in the first place. Freekum Dress is growing on me. But Kitty Kat is pure FIYAH! Listen is VERY Mariah-ish but she's singing the HELL out it. Nice song! And to make you Beyonce fans VERY happy, here is a very positive review from Amazon:

History may prove Beyonce's B'Day to be a rare double-whammy of an achievement. Not only is it destined to hold up as one of the thumpingest, most polished-sounding discs of 2006 , it's also bound to loose a new phrase into the popular lexicon: a "freekum dress" (n.), as described on a same-named track halfway through this excellent CD, is a "right-fittin'" garment owned by every woman; "when they act wrong, that's when you put it on." Linguistic hijinks aside, here is Beyonce as the public rarely sees her: fully liberated and artistically fearless. "Ring the Alarm," a big-banging, fire-alarm-clanging wake-up call to a cheating man, finds her seething; "Kitty Kat," a feline-like size-up of a stale relationship helped along by the still innovative Neptunes, shows her spurned; the womanly, fire-in-the-belly come-on "Suga Mama" gets her way, way worked up; and the crackling, vocally volcanic "Resentment" steeps her in Aretha-caliber soul. For all the disc's solo trailblazing, though, where it really soars is on one of two duets with Jay-Z: While "Up Grade U" chugs along entertainingly enough about the good life ("I'm talkin' spa bags and fly pads and rooms at the Bloomberg"), opener "Deja Vu" blasts out a bomp-bomp beat nobody with a head to nod could resist. Cake, candles, and Cristal or no, B'Days rarely get this good. --Tammy La Gorce

Ok...I was wondering if you were ever going to post the songs that leaked like last week. In other words....this aint really an "Exclusive"....

Anonymous said...

thanks toya for the downloads and positive review. definately gettin bday

Well, it is exclusive because many people didn't have accethese leaked tracks and Toya helped make them more available to the masses! So I do feel like I'm in the exclusive niche. because i'm sure there are millions of people in the general public who haven't heard these leaked tracks as of yet! PARTY POOPER!

Toya,I have to disagree with you. The tracks still sound mediocre to me. Of all the tracks I've heard thus far, Ring the Alarm and Freakum Dress are the two strongest tracks. The tracks all feel rushed to me, and she is still using bubble gum rapper lyrics (juvenile). And a lot of her material sounds very very similar to Amerie. Amerie has established a distict sound/style and Beyonce's tracks sound like left over tracks from Amerie's last album. Beyonce has a great voice, but this effort just wasn't as thorough as it could have been (IMO). hopefully next time she'll take more time and worj with more producers. I think she should give Dark Chil another chance but just not rush it...he does amazing work with Brandy! Freakum Dress and Ring the Alarm are both hot though. I hope Freakum Dress is the next single.

Has anyone heard the entire cd as of yet or r u still waiting on the last 5 like me? :-)

I think the albums aight. I kinda prefer it to "Dangerously in love" - I hated that record.

"Upgrade U" is STRONG! Jay-Z came through on that track. I also like "Got me bodied" - I love her voice and the way she carries the track. But the bridge is LACKING. Swizz beatz can not compose bridges at ALL can he? *lol*

Even if this album is better than DIL, it doesn't say much...because I think DIL was a weak album, but was hyped by the media and record industry. She used her image to sell that record, because those songs were all mediocre...but she is Beyonce...and it seems like she can sell anything...which is very unfortunate for the other two members of Destiny's Child..because their efforts always seem toget overlooked.

I'm still of the same opinion. The songs are slightly better, but not enough to change my opinion. Freakum Dress ends good enough, but the first part is a little stale. Whereas the ending to Get Me Bodied makes absolutely know sense.

Upgrade You has the hottest "beat" of the bunch, but then here you go again with Beyonce singing about completely subservience to men, so I can't like this song on principle (and Jay-Z RETIRE. Your flows are wack. Sorry Beyonce, but it takes more than a man bringing in paper for me to want to devote my life to serving his ass. I am NOT his possession or his tool. I guess she's comfortable just being Jay-Z's possession though, because there are several direct references to him in this song, and we all know how "romantic" they are.

Basically, you can still tell this album was made in two weeks, though the full tracks are slightly better than snippets led on. My main complaint is that most of the tracks don't hold up that momentum. Either the beginning, end, or middle, only one part of the song is fire, then it totally loses steam.

The only song from the B-Day sessions that I can say I absolutely love from beginning to end is "Irreplacable". Her vocals are hot, and I love how she's singing a song about "Putting A Nigga In His Place!" to the tune of a love song. Ironic, and kind of Brilliant. If only the rest of the album were like that

I find it funny how some people are saying it doesn't sound that bad well it doesn't sound good neither. Still mediocre at best.

AND YOU HAVE TO BE 14 YEARS OLD AND IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TO THINK THESE SONGS ARE FIRE! We're not deaf, we can hear every single out of tune note that beyonce screams/yells out to the chaotic and frantic production of every mediocre track.

"Get me Bodied" and "Upgrade You" is not available, Why? I need to hear these two songs!!!!

Thanks for posting these Toya, you always look out for us (at the expense of your blog ... yet again).

I haven't listened to the full tracks yet because I'm at work for another 15mins, but when I get home I'm definitely on it.

And to all yall who said the CD sounds rushed, ya'll only sayin it because she keeps tellin people she did it in 2 weeks. If ya'll didn't know that ya'll wouldn't be all over it like that.

-my 2 cents

I think the songs are aight. I love "Upgrade U", that's my jam right there. "Get me bodied" is hot too, I love her voice on that track. But the bridges on alot of her songs are awful. She needs to take a page out of Mariah's "Emancipation" record and realise not EVERY song has to have a bridge. The bridge on "Upgrade U" after Jay-Z wasn't needed and she didn't have to sing the bridge on "Got me bodied" twice. *lol* It also doesn't help that composing bridges isn't 1 of Swizz Beatz's strong points. *lol*

The album isn't a complete tragedy. It does have some decent songs, but some of them are a bit too frenetic and I think that's why "Irreplaceable" is a stand out track. It has a simple melody and doesn't have loads going on. In a few of the other tracks there's so much instrumentation, harmonies, layered vocals and ad libbing that the songs just have too much going on at times.

i'm still not feeling the songs. i beyonce's fans need to put more energy into buying her album on release day then bitching and moaning because some people don't like the songs. we all don't HAVE to like her music , but if you happen to like what you hear just say you like it and move on.

Although I do think this album will be more pop than R&B, I'm still feelin it. Now that I hear the full versions of some of the songs off of B'Day I'll definitely buy it! (Why do I try to resist this woman? I end up loving everything she sings! LOL) I'm loving "Kitty Kat" and "Upgrade U"!

I am FEELIN' "Creole" as well. Japan always get hot bonus tracks! *lol* If the Japanese version has "Listen" and the extended version of "Got me bodied" - I may just import it. CD's are packaged better in Japan anyway. You always get a cool spine label and printed lyrics.

You can find the full B'Day album for download at this site http://idx.fan-source.com if anyone wanted to hear the rest of the songs in it's entirety.

I'm sorry but Danity Kane's album is far superior to Beyonce's album. There album has direction, good production and lyrics that don't sound like they came from a bubble gum rapper. Beyonce will thrive on her image...but Danity KAne has several tracks that make Beyonce's album just look substandard and poor. One Shot, Want It, Right Now, Ride For You, Hold Me Down...all fabulous tracks..and I haven't heard one track from Beyonce than can compete with any of the aforementioned.

people keep in mind she did this in 2 weeks!!! Saying that I think she did pretty good it's no D in Love but it was not suppose to be.... It's fun music though and I think she delivered it.... It takes plenty of people months to make a flop and it took this girl 2 weeks and still put out some bangers....
